THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

There is nothing wrong in pursuing happiness in this life, but there is one condition to its pursuit for the Christian.  It is this:  above even happiness, we seek to know, love, and serve God as our first priority.

In first seeking God’s glorification in our lives, we often obtain more happiness in our earthly existence and the promise of eternal joy as well.  The degree to which our hearts are surrendered to God in this present life will determine how satisfied we will be even in the here and now.

The happiest people on Earth are those who know they are in intimate union with Jesus Christ and, in grace beyond all measure, are also promised perfect joy in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Being happy is not a bad thing if feeling that way is not elevated about our Lord as an object of worship.  When rightly seen as a byproduct of knowing God as our highest priority, “the pursuit of happiness” is put in its proper place.

“Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your hearts. – Psalm 37:4 NIV
