Ever notice how resistant your airline colleagues can be to the basic doctrines of Christianity? There are many reasons for this and some of them are cultural. To help them believe the truth you must first know the “untruths” many people today have been conditioned to believe.
Contemporary culture (especially in the West) does not lend itself to the concept of a transcendent and unchanging God. This is evident in theologies that propose a deity that is “evolving” in the same way humans supposedly are.
Modernity and Post-Modernity are both built on the idea of change always being necessary and man-centered progress being inevitable. These worldviews teach us to believe that the newest is always the best and that there is no end to human potential.
The result of such a worldview are people who have trouble knowing how to relate to a God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever or to the idea of how truly fallen they are and how much in need of His redemption.
