Trusting in Identity: How Knowledge of God Transforms Who We Are

A deepening knowledge of how best to do our jobs, whether they be on the ramp or in the cockpit, gives us a greater sense of security in who we are professionally. A deepening knowledge of God does the same for knowing who we are spiritually.

The redeeming love of our Lord enables us to know we are saved by God’s perfect attributes, one of which is infinite, eternal love. It is His very identity that, in a sense, saves us, for in giving our lives to His Son we are now found “in Him”; no longer in ourselves. We come to trust in Who He is and what He is doing in our lives rather than in all the other voices telling us about who we are.

In the end it is a deepening knowledge of God’s character, poured into and transforming us, that we must look to for deliverance from every fear, including those coming from wrong ideas about who we are.

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:22-44 (NIV)
