Trusting God’s Promises: A Better Perspective

Do you feel that part of God’s promise to you as one of His children is that you will definitely get that promotion to the left seat in the cockpit you have been faithfully praying for for years? Biblically speaking that is not something He has promised you. Don’t despair, though, what He has promised you is better.

The real and precious promises that God has made to His children is that He will see them through their affliction, use that affliction to make them more Christlike, and eventually deliver them from all afflictions in the World that is to come.

We are sometimes on theologically “thin ice” when we assume He has made many other promises to us unrelated to these core ones.

We are on even thinner ice when we let unfulfilled expectations based on faulty assumptions sway us into thinking God is not worthy of our complete trust.

By which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. 2 Peter 1:4 (ESV)
