Many of us had earthly fathers who would not have won any “Dad of the Year” awards. That is why it is so important we truly know who our Heavenly Father is.
The best way to get there is by getting to know His Son.
One of the best ways to combat such wrong conceptions about our heavenly Father is to realize that His being is perfectly reflected in His Son. One of the cardinal characteristics of Christ was and is His desire to help every hurting soul who truly comes to Him for help. It is clear from the Scriptures that Jesus wanted to heal, help, and save those who were lost, broken, and desperate.
If the Son deeply desires “to seek and save that which is lost.” We can safely assume His Father feels the same way. In fact, our Lord feels this way even though those He desires to help are still people who do wrong.
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost. Luke 19:2 (NIV)
