My life has never been the same since two flight attendants took the time to share about FCAP (Fellowship of Christian Airline Personnel) during my flight attendant training in Atlanta, November of 1985.
An integral part of FCAP in the early years was the beginning of the Prayer Ministry. There were two special ladies that I knew, among others, who prayed me into the Kingdom. They were my roommate in training, Lisa, and our dear Minnie V. Following presentations at the training center about the availability of FCAP, Minnie V hosted dinners in her home for any new-hires who wished to attend. It was there that I was introduced to others in FCAP and Minnie V. She became my spiritual mentor from then on.
Minnie V’s legacy is her praying heart for others and her gift of hospitality, in which I gleaned from her. Scripture teaches us that hospitality is not just a social act, but a spiritual practice that reflects our Lord’s love and compassion, as well as our desire to see believers live in a way that honors Him and serves others.
In 1993, I met Kathleen at the annual FCAP Conference at Shocco Springs, Alabama. After a few years we became more acquainted. I invited her and a few other ladies including Lisa, my roommate in training, who was and is still a friend and mentor, to my home in Minnesota, for a weekend retreat. My 13-year-old daughter met Kathleen and asked her to be her spiritual grandmother. For six years, we would fly to her lake home in Texas to play, swim and pray. To this day, Kathleen is a light and encourager to both of us.
The inspiration for this article came to me when I rediscovered the eulogy in which I spoke at a Celebration of Life for dear Marlene, who passed in April 2023. I met Marlene when I was based and flying out of Salt Lake City, Utah. We were both on the team to begin a local FCAP chapter and the CSF-Christian Singles Fellowship. There were 70 singles at our first meeting! We served together planning, hosting and leading studies until I moved home to Minnesota. I then commuted to Salt Lake City and Marlene graciously was my transportation and she provided me a room in her home for three years. Our friendship grew as iron sharpens iron in our faith.
Marlene joyfully used her God given gifts! She had a loving, Christ-led heart for the Lord and for others. Rejoice when God uses you to minister in the world of His Kingdom! The victory is already secured!
A spiritual legacy encompasses values, beliefs, wisdom, and stories that we pass down to future generations impacting their understanding of faith and ultimately our lives.
FCAP provides a foundation for future generations! It helps us navigate life’s challenges and trials as we work our positions in the airline industry. I found meaning in my life’s journey as Christ would have it.
I encourage you to take a moment to praise God for the legacy from which you have richly benefited. Then pray for the legacy that you are building to bring others to Christ and to glorify our Lord and Savior.
