A good airline executive will take counsel from others on his or her management team who are trustworthy. As believers, we need some spirit-filled people from whom to hear in our lives as well.
A compulsive, fearful quest to spiritually dot every “i” and cross every “t” in even our smallest actions each day is a sure sign of a heart still in bondage to the law. Now, we are not endorsing obvious sin. Sin surely exists and must be avoided.
The question here is this: can we live with the “gray areas,” with the times in life when bits of Scripture, often taken out of context, simply do not tell us exactly what to do, no matter how much we want them to?
Perhaps the answer is to trust the voice of the Spirit in those times, places, and circumstances. Good counsel from other mature Christians can often be the way we hear that voice.
Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed. Proverbs 15:22
