Introducing Andrew Pietila

I was fortunate to grow up in a Christian household, with my family leading me in a Christ-centered upbringing. It was truly a blessing to have such a strong foundation, including a regular church home and a Christian school education through 8th grade. I will always be thankful for the consistent and faithful shepherding of my parents, teachers, pastors, and fellow believers of my youth.

As I entered adulthood, much of this consistency began to fade. Although I never lost my faith, as I moved around the country for school and various aviation jobs, I did not establish a regular church home or continue in the Christ-centered lifestyle I’d been raised in. Nevertheless, as we know from Jesus’s words in Matthew 7:24-25, a firm foundation in Christ can withstand all that may come. Despite my failings and lack of commitment during this time, the foundation built on the rock of Jesus remained firm.

A significant turning point for our family was during the COVID era. During this time, we felt God calling us to draw nearer to Him in faith, yet this was becoming more and more difficult to achieve. Many churches were not meeting, even though we felt this incredible need to worship and fellowship. Our children were prevented from attending the Christian school we had chosen for them to attend. This eventually led us to relocate to Idaho, where we have been astonished at how God is growing His army of believers. Not just locally, but with real, worldwide impact.

Since I’m an airline pilot who commutes out of Boise, some of my fellow believers in Idaho encouraged me to explore the Boise Airport Chapel. I stopped by one day and met two of the dedicated chaplains there, Warren “Ski” Milanowski and Doug Human. They introduced me to the FCAP organization, and I was pleasantly surprised to realize that I knew the Director, Jake Joseph! Jake and I were new-hire classmates at our airline, and he made quite an impression on me with his faith and testimony. God had certainly put all these pieces of the puzzle together.

After getting to know FCAP, the chapel, and the ministry, I felt God’s calling to serve through this ministry. It has been so great to build relationships with the chaplains and so many others at my home airport. The level of engagement we can achieve through faith and Christian fellowship is just so powerful, and I’m excited about sustaining and growing this ministry. As a young adult who didn’t remain consistent in Christian fellowship, I really appreciate how FCAP gives us an opportunity to live our faith at work, especially in an industry where many of us are not settled down into a consistent routine.

In addition to the FCAP ministry, my wife, Laura, and our two boys enjoy serving at our church, volunteering at the boys’ Classical Christian school, and enjoying the great outdoors of Idaho.

Note from FCAP: On July 1, Warren Milanowski, who has directed the Boise Airport Chapel since its formation, will officially pass the baton of his role at the Chapel on to Andrew. We in FCAP are so very thankful that God has led Andrew into our midst for such a time as this.
