God’s Grace: A Call to Transformation, Not Indulgence

God’s grace is far more than a “get out of jail free” card. We need to depend upon grace while not presuming upon it.

The person who obtains grace is the person who is truly sorry for their sin when the Spirit convicts them of it; once He or she has the desire to put it out of their lives.

In confessing and repenting of the sin in question, the person receives both forgiveness and the ability to resist temptation regarding it in the future. But if someone instead thinks of grace as a kind of “permit” for wrongdoing, they truly have made a most dangerous mistake, one that puts them in great spiritual danger.

We absolutely must depend on grace, but we also should not presume upon it.

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age. Titus 2:11-12 (ESV)
