Finding Humility Through Wonder in the Workplace

What does it mean to practice Christian humility on the job, whether on the ground or in the air? First, we need to know a bit about what true humility really is.

The famous 20th-century Christian apologist and author C.S. Lewis once wrote about true humility.

He said that our best spiritual moments came when we forgot about ourselves in the contemplation of God. In other words, Lewis did not so much counsel trying to annihilate one’s self as much as losing one’s self in gazing at Something, Someone infinitely greater than us.

Whenever our spiritual eyes are fixed on God we lose our natural self-centeredness in the process. It was, for Lewis, a matter of focus. Inwardness is displaced by an “outwardness” that comes with focusing on our Lord.

The reward for humility and fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life. Proverbs 22:4 (ESV)
