Can You Fly a Plane Without the Manual? (Spoiler: No Way!)

Ask any pilot if it is a good idea to fly a commercial jet without using the type’s flight manual as the final authority on what that aircraft can (and can’t) be asked to do. The answer should be no. Why is that?

Because the creator of that airplane knows it best.

It is a common fault, among even the best Christians, to think we can imagine “what God has planned for those who love Him.”

We suffer from the conceit that we know what is good for us. This conceit is another facet of our flesh.

No one knows what is best for a creature than that creature’s Creator. This statement has the ring of common sense, but it is a great challenge to believe it in its full importance. It is our tendency instead to stubbornly cling to the idea that what we want is what is best. It often isn’t.
