The Fight is Real: Finding Strength in Ongoing Repentance

Struggling with some sin, whether while you are in the air or on the ground? Do not despair if you do not immediately and forever overcome it.

It is dangerous to presume to judge how long someone can fail to have full victory over habitual sin without that failure doing irreparable damage to their relationship with God. The process of sanctification is just that, a process, and the purification of a soul is measured over the span of years, not days or weeks.

The key is attitude.

There is a world of difference between one who continues to vigorously resist whatever the temptation is, confessing when he or she falls, and someone who, most of the time, gives in to that temptation and is concerned about it less and less.

Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times.” Matthew 18:21-22 (ESV)
