Sometimes it is hard to submit to the authority of a supervisor in the reservations center, especially if we feel he or she has an “attitude problem.” How do we learn to respect authority on the job, no matter how we may feel about that authority at the moment?
The only hope the sincere Christ-follower has of learning the way of submission to God Himself, and any legitimate human authority, must begin with understanding the ultimate submission of God, the Son, to God, the Father. In fact, if it were not for the obedience of Jesus on Earth two-thousand years ago we would not have the faith to which we cling handed down to us over the Christian centuries.
We also would have no enduring hope for this life or the next.
Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. 1 Peter 2:13-14 (ESV)
