In the ancient near East every religious Jew knew that the Jews don’t mix with the gentiles. Luke tells us a story on how the Jews summoned Jesus to go to a centurion’s (Gentile) house, to heal his servant (believed to be a Jew). This time it was not to trick Him, but it was a genuine request. According to Luke,“And when they came to Jesus, they begged Him earnestly, saying that the one for whom He should do this was deserving, for he loves our nation, and has built us a synagogue” (Luke 7:4-5). This is the only time that the Bible says that someone deserved a miracle, and Jesus did not contest. When Jesus met the Centurion, He found out why. He has an influential servant that impacted his life which caused him to have faith in Christ. The Centurion said there are soldiers (Romans) under his command… but that particular servant (a Jew) is above and beyond.   Are your sick calls genuine? What does your boss think of you? (MM) Consider: “Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eye service, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ” (Colossians 3:22-24)
