Fellowship Of Christian Airline Personnel

You probably have heard people say, “I heard a fantastic testimony” or “This person’s testimony is so powerful!” There seems to be the notion “the more sensational the story the greater the testimony.” Is this really so? If we take a closer look at testimonies, will we not find out that God works in many meaningful ways, whether great or small, especially in the daily testings of life? Isn’t it interesting that in the word testimony we find the word “test”?

As Christians, we most often understand that a testimony is the story of how a person has found Christ. However, our testimony is not just about our initially coming to faith in Christ, it is a demonstration and witness of God’s ongoing work in us while we are being tested out in the world. James tells us that our being tested is God’s way of completing our maturity: “Count it all joy when you encounter all kinds of trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance, and let it have its full effect…that you may be complete lacking in nothing.” (James 1:2-4)

A great testimony is not about how well a person tells a story, but it is about how God intervenes and works in our lives. As Christians, we go to church where we are instructed and trained in essential beliefs and spiritual disciplines, as well as how to walk by faith. However, these truths only become testimonies through our lives, as our faith in the Lord is tested in real life situations.

Peter tells us that through the various trials of life, as we rely on Christ’s sufficiency, we will give proof (a testimony) of God’s power and faithfulness in our lives. Peter put great value on the testimony of Christians:
“…Even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 1:6-7)

Are you aware of the huge amount of time you spend at the workplace and how many opportunities God provides to develop testimonies through your experiences there? A mature Christian with a testimony is one whose knowledge and faith in the Lord and His Word is being tested and tried out in the world and workplace regularly. These trials and adverse conditions provide us an opportunity to demonstrate God’s great power and ability in our life. When God is working through us in our workplace, we will have a testimony there.

At our recent FCAP International Convention, people shared many testimonies both publically and personally of how God has worked in their airline workplaces. Do you realize how often God provides opportunities for you to bring about a testimony of His faithfulness in your life? If not, why not ask Him to help you recognize them, and if you do, why not look for other believers at work with whom to share your testimonies for encouragement and to bring glory to God. (PMC)
